Stringent airport security rules, influx of finally fit baby boomers who have just retired, changing security needs, and the constant growth of niche travel are some of the trends witnessed in the travel and tourism industry in 2007. The tourism industry in the United States is booming like never before owing to better infrastructure, increasing flight availability, and lowest airfares. How do I extend my temporary green card for travel?
I have recently submitted INS form I-751, petition to remove conditions of permanent residency. My temporary green card expires in 4 weeks. I would like to travel to Europe this summer; probably before USCIS would have responded to the submission of my form. What do I need to take with me to make my reentry into the US simple and painless?
You should receive an extension letter from USCIS extending your Permanent Residency status for 1 year while the I-751 is being processed. This letter is usually sent out within a few weeks of receipt of your I-751.
If you don't receive the extension letter in time, you can make an infopass appointment as ask for a temporary stamp in your passport. You will need to provide evidence of your upcoming trip though. USCIS does not issue the temporary stamps as readily as they used to.
All you need to re-enter the US is the extension letter, passport and/or temporary stamp.
