Focus on TaylorMade R9 !

Adjust the Head. Adjust the Weights. TaylorMade R9 Driver totally Optimize You.
Taylor Made Flight Control Technology (FCT)Change the face angle, lie angle and loft to affect side-to-side flight by up to 40 yards – 8 different club head positions.
How to adjust the R9 - The R9 has a small metallic sleeve positioned over the tip of the shaft. The shaft is secured to the club head with a specially made bolt in the bottom of the club head. The FCT bolt is designed to be retained in the well to eliminate the chance of losing it. At the bottom of the sleeve is a ring of small, gear like teeth, which tightly mesh with a second ring of matching teeth within the hosel. You can change the club head's characteristics (face angle, loft, lie) by loosening the FCT bolt, removing the shaft from the head, rotating the sleeve and shaft into a specified position, then locking them into that position within the head with the FCT bolt.
Movable Weight Technology (MWT)
The R9 includes one 16-gram & two 1-gram changeable weights. This allows you to change the clubs center of gravity location to affect side-to-side flight by up to 35 yards. Put the heavy weight in the heel port to promote a draw, in the toe port to promote a fade, and in the middle port to promote a straight flight.

TaylorMade R9 Max Driver

The R9 Max Type E driver is a Japan only product designed for increased distance, it features an overall lighter weight, low deeper center of gravity design and a 45.75" length.
The combo of these assets create a club that is easier to hit and produce a faster swing speed with more carry and distance. Of course this driver still features the same FCT setup that the R9 is so famous for, This is simply a package for golfers  who have less ego and want more pop to their driver.
Let's face it for those of us who have tried the current Taylormade R9 on the market it just isn't the longest and compared to the previous Taylormade driver models in some cases has been noted to be shorter. We all know the best thing about the R9 is how adjustable it is and in many cases by adjusting to your specs creates more distance but for the golfer who has his/her swing in tune the carry is a bit lacking to some.

TaylorMade R9 SuperDeep TP Driver
The Taylor Made R9 SuperDeep TP driver features a 460cc head with an ultra-deep face and is designed to be a pure player's driver. It includes both Flight Control Technology (FCT) and Movable Weight Technology (MWT) with two movable weights, allows for up to an astonishing 448 combinations of ball flight. Its more forward center of gravity and lower MOI increase its shot-shaping capability.
R9 SuperDeep tp driver is intended for those players that continue to fight against a high launch and a high rate of spin on their tee shots. Regardless of what loft and customized shaft they have tried to correct for this problem, this type of player realizes that the head design and CG location of the taylormade r9 superdeep tp driver is what is needed. The face depth of the SuperDeep is at the USGA legal limit. This unique design feature along with a more forward positioned CG location allows for even the highest swing speed players to bring down their launch conditions. The additional weights that are offered with the SuperDeep also cater to the technician type of player who will utilize these weights to fine tune both trajectory and swingweight.
Taylormade R9 SuperDeep TP Driver Reviews:According to Loegering, Sergio Garcia loved the look of the driver at first sight. He has practiced with it twice this week and will likely put it in the bag on Thursday morning. Another TaylorMade staff player, Kenny Perry, has also asked TaylorMade to make a SuperDeep driver to his specifications.

Is the TaylorMade Burner Plus good irons for a 12 handicapper looking to improve to a sub 5 handicap?

Will I be keeping my game sub-optimal? I currently play a very old set of blades and get pretty good distance with them. My problems are mostly with chipping and putting.

I'm wondering whether I may be better off getting a more traditional set of irons for a better player and try to play my way into them. I usually keep a set of clubs for at least 6-8 years and do not want to get stuck with a set of clubs that do not enhance the development of my skills.

If you have any problems with mishits off the face then the new irons will help. Otherwise, the blades will give you more control and a better feel of the ball. If your problems are mostly with chipping and putting, the new irons will not lower your handicap that much. Instead of spending money on the new irons, I would suggest paying that money to a Golf Professional and get some lessons for the short game. The majority of shots in golf come from the wedges and the putters so if you can lower those shots, you can lower your handicap.
